Give An Inch

Give An Inch

For years I have worked with single moms and their children. For years I believed I had a heart for them and their children and an understanding of how tough things could be at times but it wasn't until recently when I became a single mom of four that I truly began to realize just how real the struggle is!

There are so many single parent situations all around from your neighbor next door to the person you sit next to at work. These people are a lot of times dealing with struggles that no one ever realizes. Beyond the pressure of raising kids alone they are also living on one income and have the same responsibilities as a family with both parents who are doing it as a partnership. If a car breaks down a lot of times there is not a back up car to use till that one gets fixed. If two of the kids need dropped off at two different places at the same time there is only one chauffeur to get them there.

Why do I say all these things? Not to make you feel sorry for us, but to raise awareness I guess. If you happen to know one of us or are even acquaintances with one of us and you notice we are having a rough day,,, reach out with a word of encouragement or even a helping hand. If the grass in their yard is getting tall instead of making a comment about it how about walk over with your mower and mow it real quick, if your child is on a team with them and you see them struggling to get there on time each week how about offering to carpool with them, or if you have children that are similar ages how about instead of having a garage sale and selling your child's clothes that are still in great shape for pennies on the dollar, offer them up and pass them along.

These are just a few small and simple ideas that could make our communities better. Single parents are all around. You may not be able to walk a mile in their shoes but you can show you care just by giving an inch.Image result for single moms
